During dry season Ogo society performances, the Okonkpo mask appears to mock the greedy elder, the lazy farmer, and the foolish behaviour everyone recognises but no one will openly criticise. The white face connects the wearer to ancestor spirits, giving them permission to speak difficult truths through laughter.
